The Alaska Children's Choir, founded in 1979, is dedicated to excellence in music education and choral singing, offering some 120 Southcentral Alaskan children the opportunity to train and perform to some of the highest artistic standards locally, nationally and internationally.  The membership spans an age range of 5-18, and singers represent communities throughout Southcentral Alaska.  The choir is divided into six levels:  Minisingers, Mastersingers, Chambersingers, Jubilate, Touring Choir, and the Camerata.

The entire choir performs together in several concerts each year.  The group also performs frequently with other local musical organizations, including the Anchorage Concert Chorus, Anchorage Opera, and the Alaska Chamber Singers.  In April 1994, the Touring Choir performed Andrew Carter's "Benedicite" with the Alaska Chamber Singers, as well as joining their Winter 1996 concert, "A Venetian Christmas".  Past performances with the Anchorage Opera include "La Boheme" in 1994; "Hansel and Gretel" in Spring 1995; and "I, Pagliacci" in Fall 1996.  The Touring Choir joined the Anchorage Opera production of "Carmen" in March 2000.  The choir joined the Anchorage Concert Chorus twice in Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana".  The Touring Choir and Jubilate have also performed in the Air Force Band of the Pacific's annual Holiday Lights show. In Fall 2001, members of the Alaska Children's Choir joined Anchorage Opera's production of "Tosca".  In March 2002, the Touring Choir joined the Anchorage Concert Chorus, the Alaska Chamber Singers, and the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra in Bach's "St. Matthew's Passion".

Each summer, the Touring Choir travels from home on a concert tour.  Nationally, the Touring Choir has traveled to the Pacific Northwest; Washington, D.C.; Minnesota;  the U.S. East Coast; and to New Orleans, Louisiana.  International tours have included England, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Austria, British Columbia, Australia and New Zealand.   This past summer, the Touring Choir traveled to the Midwest (Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri) and did joint concerts with the Ames Children's Choir the DesMoines Youth Choirs.

The Choir has earned many awards at choral festivals, including: 1st  place Children's Choir in the 19th International Youth and Music Festival (Vienna, Austria, 1989); Senior Youth Choir of the Year award at the Bournemouth Musicmaker's Festival (Bournemouth, England, 1991); Trophy of Excellence in Children's Choral Singing at the Classic American Music Festival (Honolulu, Hawaii, 1993); and 2nd place Children's Choir in the International Oskarshamn Festival (Oskarshamn, Sweden, 1994).

We hold auditions three times each year -- September for the Holiday semester, January for the Spring semester, and again in the summer for the Music Theater Workshops.
